The Strong Black Woman Crumbles, Loving Me #2

This is for the warriors who hold the burdens of their families, worlds, and communities upon their shoulders, while never attending to their own needs

This is for the women who would rather save face than help themselves

This is for the “do unto others” folks who still haven’t caught the second part of the verse

For the she-roes and leaders who need someone to check-in on them

This is for the stigmatization of mental health and wellness within Africana communities

For the motion of prayer, but not of speech

For the constantly moving, but never still

For those who live in denial…reality may catch up to you in a while

Strong.

Black.

Woman.

Once standing at podiums

Now on her bed curled up in a ball

Strong.

Black.

Woman.

Who was pouring out to the masses

Whose life now appears in ashes

From unchecked asylums

To social movements

From problematic exorcisms

To healthy dialogues

Strong.

Black.

Woman.

Though your life may have now crumbled

One day, you will rise, and stand again

So love yourself, hard.

For it will be well
